Using AI Chat for Plant Diagnosis

Meridian's AI can help identify plant issues, answer growing questions, and give personalized recommendations based on your specific setup.

Starting a conversation

1. Tap AI Chat in the sidebar
2. Type your question or describe what you're seeing
3. Hit send — the AI responds in real-time with streaming text

You'll see a set of example questions when you first open the chat. These are good starting points if you're not sure what to ask.

Selecting a plant for context

At the top of the chat, there's a plant selector dropdown. By default it's set to General Question — the AI answers without specific context about any plant.

Select one of your plants and the AI automatically considers:

• Your plant's growth stage and age
• Growing medium (soil, coco, hydro)
• Equipment in your grow space
• Recent environment data from connected sensors
• Your nutrient recipes and recent feedings

This makes a huge difference in answer quality. "My leaves are yellowing" gets a generic answer. The same question with a plant selected gets recommendations specific to your medium, stage, and environment history.

Photo diagnosis

Tap the camera icon next to the text input to upload a photo.

What you get back:

• A health score with confidence level
• Primary diagnosis with detected issues
• Differential diagnosis — other possible causes ranked by likelihood
• Specific treatment recommendations tailored to your setup

Tips for better photo results:

• Use natural or white light — avoid blurple/grow lights if possible
• Focus on the affected area, but include some healthy tissue for comparison
• Get close enough to see detail on the leaves
• If multiple leaves are affected, show the worst one and a moderate one

Photos are automatically compressed before sending, so don't worry about file size.

Conversation memory

The AI remembers what you've discussed within a session. You can ask follow-up questions naturally:

"My lower leaves are yellowing between the veins" AI responds with magnesium deficiency diagnosis "What's the best way to fix that in coco?" AI gives coco-specific treatment advice

Tap Clear or New conversation to start fresh.

Suggestion chips

After the AI responds, you may see suggested follow-up questions. Tap any of them to continue the conversation in that direction.

Giving feedback

Every AI response has thumbs up and thumbs down buttons. Your feedback directly improves the AI over time — it helps us understand which answers are helpful and which need work. Please use them.

AI credits

Each conversation uses AI credits. Free accounts include credits that reset periodically. Your remaining credits are shown near the chat input.
