How much soil do I need for a 5-gallon pot?
A standard 5-gallon pot needs about 0.7 cubic feet of soil. One 1.5 cu ft bag fills about 2 five-gallon pots.
Do fabric pots need more or less soil?
Fabric pots are slightly tapered, so they hold about 10% less volume than rigid pots of the same dimensions. Our calculator accounts for this.
How heavy is wet soil?
Wet potting soil weighs roughly 1.8x its dry weight. A 5-gallon pot of wet soil weighs about 40-50 lbs. Coco coir is much lighter, and perlite lighter still.
